When personal, emotional or family problems interfere with the learning process, Kishwaukee College provides access to a certified counselor, Carolyn Kernan, MSW, LCSW, during the college’s normal business hours. An appointment can be made by calling 815-825-9375, via email at onestop@kish.edu, or stopping in Student Services on the 2nd floor of the Student Center, room C2100. Appointments are available Monday-Friday during normal business hours, please note that the college is closed on Friday’s during the summer. Counseling sessions are confidential, and any limits to confidentiality are carefully explained. Information may only be released with your written permission or as may be required by law. Kishwaukee College partners with several DeKalb and Ogle County Community Resource Agencies to provide resources for non-emergency and emergency services outside of the classroom. The community resources include counseling, child care services, domestic violence services, mental health, family planning, suicide prevention, substance abuse, etc., and are available 24 hours a day.
